Wrap it up Wednesday

Last Sunday David taught from Mark chapter 5. We skip forward this week to a VERY interesting passage in chaptern 7. There are, however, some developments between 5 and 7 that I would like to discuss. First, you will find that Jesus has been very busy meeting the needs of the multitude of people that have heard about this amazing healer. Many of the people from the surrounding area are in awe of this teacher/healer, yet when Christ enters into his own region the people reject him. The word even says that Jesus marveled because of their unbelief. That is a lesson all by itself. Then Christ sends out his disciples 2 by 2 with nothing more than a staff, and while all this is going on John the Baptist is arrested and beheaded. It is also during this time that Jesus feed the five thousand with nothing more than 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread. During this time Christ is busy healing, teaching, and leading. No wonder we find him in this weeks lesson seeking rest.

Rejection came because of the changes that the people knew were coming... change is a hard thing to digest at times... When David became a Christian and he started tithing (the real tithing thing not an offering) I was like-"hey... my $20.00 is from the heart so it is good enough"! Whereas the offering of $20.00 was good, David showed me what the Bible said and I- even after knowing the truth- resisted! I put up a fight that NO MAN wants to be witness to! I was NOT going to give 10% of MY hard earned money! Then I just accepted the truth and did what I knew I should do. It was a hard CHANGE for me but I finally gave in and accepted the Truth.

Okay, then if God does not need our money why do you think he requires it?

It is not the money that He requires, but the obedience to His commands. God commands us to tithe 10% of our... what do I call it? It isnt 10% of just our income, but 10% of everything we have! - our money, time, etc. It is ALL His anyway.

When we do tithe, that money is used to glorify Him... churches are built, missionaries are sent, the people are ministered to- all of which requires monetary means.

Hey, am I the only one writing on this blog? Thanks Anonymous for writing with me and making me think a lil'. I will be out of commission for a couple of days as I have to work Friday and Saturday.

PEACE!

while all your comments are true and very good, I believe we are commanded to give for OUR benefit, not necessarily the benefit of others. When we give it implies I have more than enough. It takes the focus off what I don't have and puts the focus on "He is sufficient for all my needs."

"more than enough" is relevant to the individual... take the woman in the Bible that gave ALL that she had - Luke 21:1-4 - the little that she gave was more than that which the wealthy gave- not in terms of quantity obviously, but in terms of merit.

Is it to our benefit to give? HECK YEAH! It is also to our benefit to head His commands- although I fall short so many times! ;)

PEACE!
