What does the pathway to contentment look like for you? If you were like me, it consisted of the newest car, the biggest house, fabulous vacations and so on. Surely, I reasoned, if I could posses all these things then and only then could I be content. So with this worlview of happiness I set out on my quest as a young person to be as happy as I could. It is no wonder I found myself sinking into depression as the years clicked forward and still no sign of contenment. Oh sure, there were moments of bliss as I perhaps aquired some longed for material possession, but soon enough that faded away and I again was left empty and on my next search for fulfillment.
Over these next few weeks, I would like to share with the class how I finally got off the search for happiness and found instead true contentment. In the Beatitudes, Jesus lists nine ways that God blesses those who seek first the kingdom of God. Lets take a deeper look into each of these ways and discover for ouselves what a disciple of Christ is meant to look like.
